Best Seat in the House

... a good chair is hard to find...

* * *
Craigslist: $15 for both

For some, a leather recliner or rocking chair is the perfect seat in the house.  For me, I have a few favorites & they aren't recliners, or leather.

So, I might have a slight addiction to random chairs.  But I just can't help myself when I see beauty in someone else's trash.  From Craigslist, to Goodwill, to family hand-me-downs, there is a seat in almost every room in my house that I love to sit & just enjoy the moments.

Craigslist

* * *
Rattan chairs have always drawn my eye towards them.  Just something about their look collaborates with almost any style.  Their charm just screams, come sit & stay awhile.  These I found on Craigslist with every intention on painting a bright bold color, SO glad I kept them in their original form.

Goodwill, Good Find.

These next three chairs were Goodwill finds.  The most I paid for one?
$10... & don't ask why did I thought that was expensive...

* * *
I've been spoiled with my luck at Goodwill finding chairs with good bones, good structure, & fabulous condition.  This one in particular has been in a bathroom, the foyer, the guest bedroom, and has finally found a home in the hallway.  It is quaint and the perfect fit (& not in the way!)

LOVING the soft, feminine feel.

Goodwill: $5

Hot spot on the porch.

My next find has also had several different spots in the house: front porch, bar, office... and then I realized I needed more seating on the screen porch. Done.  Home sweet home for this wooden fold up chair.  It's only downfall?  There weren't two. Maybe next time!

* * *
Goodwill: $10 (most expensive!)

"Bones"
Alright.  It is a problem when you start naming your chairs. We will deal with my addiction later!

"Bones" was $5.  There isn't much that you can buy for five bucks that gives you this much joy.  The original nails and bindings that are holding this chair together are one of a kind.  Yes, there are scratches, but the vintage feel makes it that much more of an interesting piece in my collection!

Keeping it in the Family

This one is special, so it resides in my bedroom.  It use to reside in the bedroom I stay in at my grandmother's in South Carolina.  After a long day, there is something calming about just sitting & having a glass of wine in this rocking chair. It's special.

* * *
Family piece: priceless

I say, just because a chair is standing alone, it doesn't mean "don't buy me".   Each room in a house deserves a place to rest your behind. You never know when you might just need to sit. Keep your eyes open, it will amaze you the places you will find these beauties!

My favorite?

* * *
For me, the best seat in the house is swinging on the front porch, with the  pups.  But this one is the runner up!
Duh.  It is on the porch...

...oh the stories that these chairs could tell...

Delicate & Delicious

... & I'm sold...

* * *
When someone says, "let's cook quail eggs", you say "yes!"

These tiny little eggs are so delicate  & delicious.  My first stab at cooking quail eggs: I must say, I'm pretty proud of the outcome!

Less than a handful of ingredients and you are on your way to a yummy surprise no matter the palette you are serving.

My top pick: Quail Egg Stuffed Mushrooms

* * *
... I use liquid smoke in almost everything I cook...
You should too!

Ingredients:
mushrooms caps
quail eggs
shredded cheese (I used Italian 4 cheese blend, already shredded)
salt, pepper
sprinkles of parsley
 olive oil
*liquid smoke

& this is how it is done:
Rinse mushrooms & remove stems, keeping mushroom caps
Some say "put the caps on the baking tray previously slightly greased with olive oil" I say, in a bowl, mix mushroom caps, olive oil, liquid smoke, S&P
Add cheese and parsley in cap, crack a quail egg into each, sprinkle with S&P
Place  into the preheated 180C oven and bake until cheese and eggs look cooked (I'd say, 20ish minutes)

* * *
SIDE NOTE: I also found that these little boogers are tough to crack.  After the 2nd or 3rd (failed) attempt, I  had to improvise.

TIP: crack quail egg with the tip of a knife and let ooze out

* * *
After it is all said and done, go relax & enjoy!  Everyone needs to take a hot minute each day to enjoy the little things & a delicious snack!  Find your favorite spot to enjoy these simple delights!

... ahh it is nice to be back...

Coffee Table Sophistication & Inspiration

...It has been 5 months....

Five Things to Look Forward to this Weekend :: This is Glamorous:
* * *
... in the new house.  So you know I'm itching for some change.  Easy fix: rearrange.   One of my favorite pastimes.  With so many other things changing, for the best!, in my life, why not do a little changing in the house?

Starting with my coffee table
Ikea Vittsjo Table with Coffee Table Books:
* * *

 Decorating a coffee table can be tough.  Where do I even start? Is this too cluttered?  Eek. that doesn't look right.  Look for inspiration or other tables that are eye catching and go from there!  I've posted some style to steal throughout this post!

Suggestion: Pinterest

For me, I believe it only takes 5 key pieces for a chic, elegant, & fun look and feel!

1. The right table

* * *
For you.  There are endless types of coffee tables for every personality and style.  I have had everything from a family antique trunk to a homemade "farmhouseish" style table.  Get creative.  If you don't want a "table" pretty much anything with a flat top that you can put legs on can be converted to your own masterpiece!

2. Tray/Coasters

It's sophisticated yet unexpected — plus, a bowl of decorative matches adds utility and an extra opportunity for more patterns.

It's sophisticated.  And protects your table from unwanted water marks! An opportunity for more decorative patterns & color.  Tip: If you have circular table, use a rectangle/square tray and vice versa.  Differences of shapes creates a nice balance for the eye.

3. Coffee Table Books

* * *
I know I know, you're already styling with them (and hopefully reading!).  Try this trick: consider displaying them out in a neat grid as a "base" and stacking the rest of your pieces on top.

We know, we know, you're already styling with (and we would hope: reading!) coffee table books. But instead of stacking them, consider splaying them out in a neat grid and layering the rest of your pieces on top.

NIGHT NIGHT (via Bloglovin.com ):

They can be expensive, but thank you Ollies & Amazon.  When I look for books, I start with their spine.  Always looking for fun fonts, colors, and designs.  Next, I go with content.  My library of books has anything from dogs to design and everything in between.   When searching, look for different sizes (perfect for stacking!)

4. Statement Objects & Personal Pieces

Yes, the power trifecta of books, flowers, and trays will forever reign. But don't miss these creative ideas for adding extra flair to your coffee table.:
* * *
the power trifecta: books,trays & flowers

I once read that personal pieces aren't just for the bedside table & that's so true.   What great conversation starters!  And that's what you're doing when you have company over.  It adds flair to the table that is unique to you.

They're not just for your nightstand. A beloved piece of jewelry and/or momento, like these calligraphy brushes, add flair that's unique to you. Design by Mandy Kellogg Rye of Waiting on Martha, photography by Jamie Hopper Photography:

5. Fresh Flowers/Plants

coffee table decor styling:

A pop of color does wonders to a room.  Everyday is a fresh start & living plants help create that freshness in the room and in a mindset.  Maybe it's old-fashion, but fresh air, sunshine, & fresh flowers are hard to beat!  I make a trip every week to get my fresh flowers for the house.  The feeling is welcoming and calming when walking into any room.

I can't wait to see what extra flair ends up on my coffee table.  My taste is farmhouse chic, so there will be a lot of mix & match from some of my inspiration pieces!  Have fun with different items, but remember, there is beauty in simplicity

... happy rearranging...

Americas Sweetheart

It is an amazing feeling waking up happy with  your life.

<3:
* * *
Everything about it.  Q1 of 2015 I made a promise to focus on myself.  Where I wanted to go, in love, in my profession, with friendships & my faith.   So I did.  I started to live life for me and incredible things started to happen.  Not all at once, but I learned to be patient and trust in God's plan.

Live.:
* * *

A close family friend gave me a CD with Elle King's Americas Sweetheart (below, take a listen!) on it.  Never heard it before.  But it quickly became a favorite, a theme song.   This was my pump up song going into the office! Thank you Mrs. Zenns!

Too often we spend our days trying to make everyone else happy, trying to be "America's Sweetheart".  Stop.    Take it from me, when you do, life becomes a beautiful thing!  I can finally say that I have 100% focused on myself & lucky me, all my stars are starting to fall in line.

Take a leap of faith:
* * *
Just recently I decided that I was going to pursue another career path.  Terrifying.  Is leaving what I've known for the past 5 years the right thing to do?  After much contemplating, I did it.  And today I got the news.   It is both terrifying & amazing and I can't wait to start this new chapter in my career with a phenomenal company!
(So, if there is a lack of posting, please forgive!)

Often in the past I thought "am I good enough to have that job" or "am I good enough for this relationship" and I actually believed it.  I'm not America's sweetheart, but I'm me.  So many times I have questioned God's plan for me and it is starting to all make sense.  I'm done not believing in myself anymore.  Trust in God's plan, love yourself first, live life & everything else will fall perfectly into place.

...take a leap of faith...
